What Our Concrete Trench Restorations & Repairs Include

Gravel Base Preparation & Soil Compaction

Most trench failures start underground. After utility or plumbing work, the backfill material is often loose soil or poorly graded gravel that settles over weeks and months. Our crew removes unsuitable fill, brings in proper granular base material, and compacts it in controlled lifts using plate compactors. Each layer is compacted before the next is added, which prevents the voids that cause sinking. A trench restoration without proper compaction is just a patch waiting to fail.

Formwork & Custom Formwork

Trenches rarely follow straight lines, and the edges of existing concrete are seldom uniform. We build custom forms that follow the exact shape of the cut, holding fresh concrete at the correct elevation so the finished surface sits flush with the surrounding area. Where the trench intersects a driveway, walkway, or patio, our formwork accounts for slope, drainage direction, and expansion joints. Precise forming is what separates a visible patch from an invisible repair.

Steel Reinforcement & Rebar Installation

Depending on the location and load requirements, we install rebar or wire mesh before placing concrete. Reinforcement ties the new pour into the structural plane of the surrounding slab, reducing the risk of independent movement and cracking at the joint. For driveways and areas that carry vehicle traffic, steel reinforcement & rebar installation is standard practice on every Coastal Concrete trench project.

How We Restore Your Concrete Trench

Every concrete trench restoration & repair project follows a structured sequence. Obada and his crew handle each phase directly, from initial inspection through final finishing.

01

Inspect and Clear

We examine the trench, remove loose debris and unsuitable backfill, and confirm the utility work beneath is complete and properly buried.

04

Form and Reinforce

Custom forms are built to match the elevation and contour of the surrounding concrete. Rebar or mesh is placed where structural loads require it.

02

Excavate to Grade

Using our micro mini excavator where access is tight, we dig down to the solid subgrade and establish the correct depth for base material and concrete thickness.

05

Pour and Finish

Fresh concrete is placed, levelled, and finished to match the existing surface. Whether the surrounding area is broom-finish concrete, exposed aggregate finish, or smooth-finish concrete, we match the texture so the repair blends in.

03

Compact the Base

Granular base material is placed in lifts and mechanically compacted. This step prevents the settling that causes sunken patches months after the pour.

TRENCH FILLING · DECISION GUIDE

Is Professional Trench Filling Right for Your Project

Not every trench needs the same approach. Here's how to determine whether a concrete restoration is the right call for your situation.

Location and Traffic Load

Trenches through driveways bear vehicle weight and need reinforcement; walkway trenches may not.

Base Condition

If the original backfill was poorly compacted, a concrete specialist with excavation experience should re-excavate and compact before pouring.

Surrounding Finish

Matching the existing concrete finish (broom, exposed aggregate, stamped) requires a contractor who offers the full range of finishes.

When It Fits

A plumber, drainage contractor, or utility crew has cut through your existing concrete driveway, walkway, or patio, and the trench needs to be permanently restored.

The backfilled trench has already started to settle or crack, and you need a lasting repair rather than another temporary fix.

When It May Not

The trench is in a garden bed or unpaved area where concrete restoration is not required.

The utility work beneath the trench is not yet complete or has not passed municipal inspection.

A concrete contractor with combined excavation and finishing expertise will properly compact the base and match the surrounding surface. This prevents settling and delivers a clean, lasting result that looks like part of the original pour, not a patch.
